     James Slade was born in 1824 in Marshall's Folly, Newfoundland.2 He was the son of John Slade Jr. and Elizabeth Reynolds [Runnels].2 James Slade was baptized on September 11, 1824; Methodist.2
     James married Charlotte White on May 16, 1847 in Carbonear, Newfoundland, at United Church Mission house3, the daughter of Elizabeth Pippy & William White. [Charlotte is listed as Catherine White on transcription of wedding record]4 James was listed as a planter on records prior to 1855, however, he was listed as fisherman on Josiah's birth record and thereafter.5
     James married second Sarah [?].6 James Slade died on June 12, 1916.7
