Hartley Slade1

Hartley Slade was born circa 1923 in Glace Bay, Cape Breton County, Nova Scotia, Canada.2 At age 17, he enlisted and was sent to England for four years deployment. He participated in the battle of Normandy and was involved in the liberation of Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.
Returning to Cape Breton, he worked 18 months in coal mines and re-enlisted and spent 25 years as a proud member of the
Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, where he achieved the rank of Warrant Officer and would also see active duty in the Korean War.2
Hartley married Delores Marsh on April 19, 1949.2 Hartley Slade died on February 8, 2020 in Port Elgin, Ontario, Canada.2 He was buried in St. Joseph's Holy FamilyCemetery, Glace Bay, Cape Breton County, Nova Scotia, Canada
