Ernest Slade was born on February 22, 1934 in Florence, Cape Breton County, Nova Scotia, Canada.1 He was the son of John Charles Slade and Violet Patey.1
Ernest married Lena Anderson in 1953.2 Ernie worked for many years as a stevedore with C.N. Marine in North Sydney until his retirement. He was very active in local politics and served several terms as Ward Two Councillor for the Town of North Sydney. Ernie was a genuine people person and remained interested in the lives of others up until the time of his passing. Although his body failed him, his mind and memory remained sharp until his last days. The stories that he recounted were remarkable.3 Ernest Slade died on June 7, 2019 in Cape Breton County, Nova Scotia, Canada, at age 85.1
