John Hayter Slade1

b. 10 February 1753, d. 1783
     John Hayter Slade was baptized on February 10, 1753 in Poole, Dorset, England.1 He was the son of John Slade and Martha Hayter.2 In 1768, John began accompanying his father on the annual trip to Newfoundland for trading and in a few years was acting as chief agent in Twillingate, Newfoundland.2 John Hayter Slade died in 1783 died of smallpox.2

Note: The two names of John Hayter Slade, died 1783, and Robert Standley Slade, died 1846, appear on an iron headstone at Fogo. [It is not known if either of them are buried here]3
