George Morgan Slade

(9 September 1931 - 17 October 2014)
     George Morgan Slade was born on September 9, 1931 in Mobile, Mobile County, Alabama.1 He was the son of James Bennett Slade II and Theresa Llabona Roberts.1
     George married Henrietta Elizabeth Oliver.1 He graduated from St. Stanislaus Parochial School in Bay St. Louis, MS. He then attended Auburn University where he was a member of the Air Force ROTC and the Arnold Air Society, graduating in 1953. After graduation, Mr. Slade entered the U.S. Air Force and served at Spence Air Base, Lackland AFB, and Elmendorf AFB. He left active duty in October 1955 as a 1st Lieutenant. Upon returning to Mobile, he opened Slade's Laundromat in three locations and operated the business for 35 years.2 George died on October 17, 2014 at age 83.2 He was buried in Hooks Cemetery, Washington County, Alabama.2 His obituary read as follows:

      Sept. 9, 1931 - Oct. 17, 2014 George Morgan Slade – son of the late James Bennett Slade and Theresa Llabona Roberts Slade, died on the 17th of October, 2014 at his home. He was born in Mobile, AL and raised in Washington County and Mobile County. Mr. Slade attended and graduated from St. Stanislaus Parochial School in Bay St. Louis, MS. Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street on Friday, October 24, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Holy Family Catholic Church at 1400 Joyce Rd. in Mobile on Saturday, October 25, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Hooks-Harris Cemetery in Washington County on Highway 43 north of McIntosh at 12:15 p.m.

     Thomas Ephraim Slade was New Tag on October 18, 1832 in Canada. He was born on October 18, 1834 in Tatamagouche, Colchester County, Nova Scotia, Canada.1,2 He was the son of Thomas Slade and Margaret Tattrie.1,3
     Thomas married Ellen Dunphy on January 24, 1857 in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia.4,5 Alexander Clark, a family member & neighbor remembers "Ephraim lived on Slade Road, a little less than one mile south out twoards the Leake Road. The site of his home can very easily be found yet, on the west side of the road, and very near to the road. Quite a deep cellar marks the site of the house."6 Thomas immigrated from to United States in 1879.4 Thomas died on November 24, 1912 in Techumseh, Johnson, Nova Scotia, at age 787 and was buried in Tecumseh Cemetery, Johnson County, Nebraska.7
