Jesse James Slade

b. 23 April 1868, d. 28 May 1937
     Jesse James Slade was born on April 23, 1868 in Pike County, Georgia.1 He was the son of James Madison Slade and Pelatiah Winifred Vaughn.
     Jesse married Leila Lifsey, daughter of Benjamine Alexander Lifsey and Martha A. F. Carter, on June 11, 1891 in Georgia.2 In addition to their own children, they raised Mary Lena Powell, daughter of his sister, Minnie Olinza Powell. Mary Lena went by the surname Slade, although she was never legally adopted.1 He served as Mayor of Zebulon in 1925 and 1926.3 In 1935, he was serving as Postmaster of Zebulon.4 He died on May 28, 1937 at age 695 and was buried in East View Cemetery, Zebulon, Pike County, GeorgiaG.5,6
