Joseph Slade

b. 1808
     Joseph Slade was born in 1808 in Virginia.1 He was the son of Samuel Slade Jr. and [?] Gay. Joseph appeared in the 1840 census of Northampton County, North Carolina by himself, a male 30 to under 40 years of age.2
     Joseph married Frances Hodges, daughter of Richard Hodges and Susan [?], on December 23, 1847 in Northampton County, North Carolina.3
     Joseph married second Judith Hodges, daughter of Richard Hodges and Susan [?], on May 29, 1856 in North Carolina.4 Judith's first marriage was to Thomas Parker Vaughn on Jan 11, 1844. They had three sons, James, Junius and Thomas. The 3 boys as Slade children in the 1860 census.1
