Harris Slade of Talbot Co, Georgia

Harris Slade [   -1853] settled in Talbot County, Georgia.  He is a grandson of Samuel Slade of Southampton, Virginia  This 1830 bible is called the Harris Slade bible although it was more likely started by William Jethro Slade [1823-1863], eldest son of Harris and Mary Elizabeth Davis Slade.  It is the only known record that provides date of marriage and death for Harris and Elizabeth Davis Slade.  

The bible has been passed down through the Slade family and is now in possession of Nancy and Gene Slade of Ringgold, GA. They have graciously provided the images, transcription and other information about this bible.  Gene is a great-great-great- grandson of Harris Slade and the last descendant in his line to carry the Slade name.

Note: The 1830 Slade Family Bible was given to Harvey Eugene 'Gene' Slade, Jr. by Lou Ella Phillips Slade, wife of Lucius Arthur 'Bones' Slade, Jr.  Lou Ella and Bones Slade were never blessed with children and Harvey Eugene Slade, Sr. was his only sibling.  The Bible was handed down to Bones Slade's brother's son, Harvey Eugene Slade, Jr., who is the last male descendent in this line to carry the "Slade" name.  Gene married Nancy Jeane Dindo-Slade. They have three daughters and no sons.
